Lip Blush vs Lip Fillers: Which Procedure is Right for You?

Many of us long for full, well-defined lips to achieve the perfect pout. If nature has not naturally blessed you with plump and luscious lips, you may have considered a form of cosmetic augmentation, such as lip blush (a type of semi permanent makeup) or lip fillers.

If you are unsure which procedure might be best for you, here are some points to help you decide.

What is lip blush?

Lip blush is a type of cosmetic tattoo that uses very fine needles to deposit semi permanent pigments into the lips, subtly enhancing the colour and shape. This can disguise issues such an uneven skin tone or scarring without the need to apply a daily lipstick.

It can also be used to create a more symmetrical lip outline and create the appearance of fullness without physically adding volume. The colour will create a natural looking tint that is flattering even without makeup. This can save you time and help you to feel more self confident. With proper aftercare, the results should last between one and two years.

What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers are designed to add volume and shape to the lips by injecting hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body and binds with collagen to keep the skin supple and nourished. The dose can be customised to suit the individual desired lip size and shape. The results typically last between six months and one year.

Lip fillers can also help to smooth out fine lines on and around the lips, helping them to look softer and more hydrated, and enhancing the appearance of makeup.

Which procedure is right for you?

If you desire noticeably fuller and plumper lips with smooth contours, then lip fillers are ideal for you. It’s a quick procedure with minimal downtime, and it can be customised depending on whether you want to achieve a subtle enhancement or a more dramatic effect.

If you want to naturally enhance the colour of your lips and make minor alterations to their shape without the need to reapply daily makeup, then lip blush is the treatment for you. It’s generally cheaper and more long-lasting than fillers, depending on the salon and type of products used.

Consider combining both procedures

If you love the idea of both a semi permanent tint and more voluminous lips, then it’s perfectly possible to have both procedures. However, it’s advisable to wait at least four to six weeks after a lip blush before having a new procedure, to allow your lips to properly heal and for the full effects to be evident.

Lip fillers will settle down in around two to four weeks, depending on the type of product and the dosage used. You should also follow the aftercare instructions carefully, such as daily cleansing and moisturiser, and avoiding direct sun exposure, high intensity exercise, hot showers and wearing lipstick for the first ten days after treatment.
